Encouraging Development Legacy Foundation

Since its inception on July 1, 1999, Encouraging Development has been dedicated to fostering a more inclusive, supportive, and enriching environment for individuals within the intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) community.  Through our day program, we have strived to make every participant feel valued and included all while providing opportunities for personal growth and connection.

In 2025, to further our commitment to the community, the Encouraging Development Legacy Foundation was established as a nonprofit organization with a clear goal: to raise funds that will help us organize and host more special events designed specifically for individuals with IDDs. These events not only provide opportunities for fun and recreation but also aim to uplift and celebrate the amazing contributions of people within this community. Through the foundation, we are able to ensure that each event we host is a positive and meaningful experience.

With the help of generous donors, and volunteers, the foundation will ensure that every event is accessible and inclusive, creating spaces where people can enjoy themselves without barriers. As we continue to grow, our commitment to uplifting the IDD community through these events remains unwavering.

The foundation’s work is just beginning, and with the support of our community, we hope to expand our reach and impact, ensuring that individuals with IDDs always have a place where they feel appreciated, celebrated, and empowered.

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Legacy Prom, set to take place on April 12, 2025, at the beautiful Arma Dei Academy in Highlands Ranch. This event promises to be a fun, memorable, and inclusive night out, specifically designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). It’s an opportunity to experience a fantastic evening of music, dancing, and socializing, all while enjoying light snacks and wearing your most elegant outfit. Whether it’s your first time attending a prom or you’re looking to make lasting memories, this night is sure to be filled with joy and excitement! The Legacy Prom is more than just a dance; it’s a chance to create new friendships, celebrate individuality, and experience a sense of belonging in a supportive and inclusive environment.  We want every guest to feel special and celebrated, and we’ll make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy, from the lively dance floor to the opportunity to enjoy delicious snacks and mingle with friends old and new. For those who may become overstimulated by the lively atmosphere, we’ll have a quiet space available, offering a calm and relaxing area to recharge whenever needed. This event is exclusively for adults with IDDs and their providers. It is important that providers ensure all supervision requirements are fully met throughout the event to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. We are excited for this   inaugural event to be a success and hope it will become an annual tradition, growing year after year to provide more opportunities for fun, connection, and celebration within the IDD community.
